My Lucky Pink Ball

Big, blasted, blue-faced barbecued baboons, barnacles and bazookas! I went bowling!
K that in itself is no biggie I guess. I've gone to play bowls before.
But to do it with these peeps... *scratches head* Haha. I must be nuts.
Especially since... there was a great resistance to bowling by certain elements within the group... which strangely, disappeared over time. Wonder why eh?
Probably because we had funtastic fun, that's why!

Participants: Diana, Fizah, Muzz, Nabil, Zulhilmi, Zulhikam + Extra guy hiding behind wall.

I thought I could ace this game, but it's kinda hard to win when the person before you keeps getting 5 TRIES PER ROUND to hit spares *glares at fizah*. I thought maybe the computer is programmed to be a male innit, but then I saw with my own eyes that the game was rigged and a man was behind all that when he crawled from behind the wall to 'repair' our lane. Obviously has the hots for fizah innit.

It didn't help matters that the above-mentioned was using a pink 8 ball and kept hitting spares (with extra help of course). Somehow she managed to convince me that it's lucky, but it's actually unlucky innit! I kept hitting gutter balls with it. Had to harapkan my no. 7 pink ball, but the hot chick in the red cheongsam in the next lane kept stealing it from me so I had to make do with other balls innit. Geez. And oh oh. MuZz dropped the ball. Badaboom! Macam nangka busuk daaa. Mpppfffttttt! =)

Ended the nite at Ben N' Jerry's with discounted ice-cream (wahey!) and a lecture from Diana's mother for bringing her home late. Geez! Alritey then, I won't say much more, since them people who are in the group are the same ones who read my blog anyway. Haha. Let the pics tell all...

Oh No.

Had my Tan Tock Seng Hospital appointment for the slipped disc in my neck today.

Doc asked how I'm feeling. I said I'm feeling funky. Well, not exactly those words, but... you know.

I told him my neck doesn't really hurt, it's just that when setting my neck through its full range of motion, at the extreme right rotation there's a slight pain, a stiffness.

Doctor said that's good, it's healing. If it's not in pain it means I'm not healing.

Then he dropped the bombshell.

Doc: Just don't play sports.
Me: So sir, how? I can still play contact sports right?
Doc: No contact sports.
Me: What do you mean? What kind of sports CAN'T I play?
Doc: Sports like golf, tennis... you know, those which require a lot of turning and twisting.
Me: Ah. Well that means other sports are alright, right?
Doc: Well, if you're going to play sepak takraw, then it will gonna hurt you.
Me: Urm but doc! I AM a sepak takraw player...
Doc: Then it won't heal fast.
Me: How about football? Football's ok, right? I mean I just use my legs and body, I won't head.
Doc: Nope, no football either.
Me: Oh no...

More Old Treasures!

Wow I've almost forgotten about this one. This is a video my class (04B1!) filmed as part of a class skit at MI for Teachers' Day 2006. Err the story goes that one fine typic... err NOT typical day in school, a 20-year-old me was 'sleeping' in class and despite repeated promptings from my Home Tutor Mrs. Wee, I still remained blisfully asleep, leading my tutor to wonder just what I was dreaming about... and lo and behold, we played the video to the audience! So err in essence, this video is actually what I was dreaming uh. Err anyway, we took our inspiration from the then-running adidas commercial featuring football luminaries such as Arjen Robben, Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack, Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Kaka, Jermaine Defoe, Michel Platini (?), Franz Beckenbauer (??) and err 2 small kids (???). Enjoy~

And yes, that Indian man in the video was my real-life Economics tutor. Great sport Mr Raj!

Couple of Old Treasures!

Rummaging around in my computer, I came across 2 old videos which I haven't seen in a looong time. It invoked memories of times spent playing street soccer after-school hours, and during holidays at Kolam Ayer CC street soccer court, located outside the then-Victoria School @3 Geylang Baru Lane (currrently the residence of Cedar Girls' Sec). Ahhh such was the joy of teenage life...

The 1st video features me as a scrawny 17-year old fresh after O-levels playing with my classmates.

The 2nd video features me as a scrawny 18-year old playing with my fellow-scrawny brudders from Maelstrom (when are we gonna play there again?!!!). Interestingly, there was a catch. I was the lone guy playing against the opposite team. One-Man Hikam playing against 5 others. This was because we made a deal that whichever team scores a goal, can choose to eliminate one guy from the opposing team, until none is left. As you can see my team wasn't doing very well, all resting outside the cage, and I was the last remaining from my team because the opposing team apparently thought I was best in my team at football and so wanted to fool around with me. Konghasam betoi.

OVA vs ABN Bank

Started the day off at 9am, when Beg Mal woke me up to play football with him and his friends @Duxton. It was a very hot day, but since I had nothing on for the rest of the day, I ran around like mad. Or so I thought.

While enjoying a plate of maggie goreng ("Man! Maggie goreng telor ceplok satu!") at around 1300hrs, I received a call from Zulhairi asking if I was playing in the OVA game later on. OVA GAME LATER ON. YE GADS! I've forgotten I had a full match about 2 hours later! I groaned, now regretting that I ran around like a headless chicken so much.

So I got home, and planned to recover the best I could. Meal within one hour of physical activity, check. Hydration, drink plenty of water, check. A hot shower of 2-3 mins followed by a cold one of similar duration, followed by a hot one again, and cold, and hot, and cold, to expand and contract the arteries and get the blood flowing around the body thus delivering better oxygen flow, check.

Our opponents were ABN Bank. Was told by Abang Zan I was gonna start the game... and from centre midfield. YE GADS. Centre-mid EH. Defensive Mid at that. An attacking midfielder, a winger, asked to play defensive midfield. I felt like a fish out of water, while Zulhairi started from my normal position on the left-wing. Usually he's the one in centre-mid while I'll be on either flank. After 5 mins, Abg Zan could see I was not getting much joy, so he put me out on my more accustomed right-wing role, and Zulhairi to parner me in the right-centre midfield slot. NOW we're talking.

I had a good game by all accounts, and my partnership with Zul was sweet. Slick one-twos, through-balls, you name it. But the weather was blistering hot. I bent over several times, gasping for breath, quite drained by the heat and relentless running up and down the flank. Not to mention the fact that I had spent 3 hours playing in the morning, and to say that by the end of the game I was quite exhausted was an understatement... and a half. And my Puma V5.08's weren't helping either. I decided not to wear my red Nike Mercurials for once, to try on my Pumas. However, before long I realized that the Puma's particular bladed studs design weren't doing a good job of distributing my body impact very well on the hard artificial pitch, so my legs got a bit of cramp as the match went on. We drew 1-1, courtesy of an Adam equaliser. No disrespect to ABN, but we really should have won the game. They were there for the taking, and scored from the 1st and only attack on our goal, which had an element of luck as the ball hit the bar, landed on the ground, and spinned over the defender guarding the post from a corner-kick.

I particularly enjoyed this game because the 1st XI featured quite a no. of Clan members, people I've been playing with for several years, therefore the understanding and chemistry was there. People like Aizad, Yusry, Zul and me, with only Khairul and Adam coming in the 2nd half.

Love Him? Hate Him? <=When Love and Hate Collide=>

So... United's no. 7 has clinched his latest, and arguably most coveted, individual award in a long line of individual titles, the FIFA World Player of the Year award. In fact, in one fell swoop he made a clean sweep of all the individual awards available to him, holding off close challenger Lionel Messi. Step forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

To commemorate the win, Nike has made a viral video (whatever that means) with a "Hate Him/Love Him" concept, where fans air their views and they profess their love or hatred for the lad. Well normally that's all fine and dandy, but Nike has secretly sneaked in a cameo appearance for... well, see if you guys can spot who makes the cameo =)

<=When Love and Hate Collide=>

List of awards won by Cristiano Ronaldo in Season 08/09 (not comprehensive)
- Football Writers’ Player of the Year award
- PFA Player of the Year award
- Golden Boot award
- Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball)

AMEK KAU OBAT

ALHAMDULILLAH! TAK SIA-SIA AKU STAY UP DESPITE ONLY SLEEPING 3HOURS SEMALAM BECAUSE MANYOO KICKED SOME RUSSIAN-SPONSORED CHELSKI BUTT 3-0!!! WOOOHOOO!!!

But of course, it could, and should, have been 6-0. That's because United, and Cristiano Ronaldo in particular, had 2 perfectly legitimate goals disallowed, and another legitimate penalty claim not given. The first was because the match officials weren't up to speed with United's clever planned corner-kick routine, and the linesman ruled that the ball wasn't in the quadrant when the corner-kick was taken. What they missed however, was that Wayne Rooney had actually rolled the ball into and out of the quadrant casually and left it for Ryan Giggs to cross, from which Ronaldo would subsequently head the ball into the net. Unconventional probably. Unorthodox, definitely. It fooled Chelsea. Unfortunately, it fooled the linesman too. Poor call from the match officials.

The second goal disallowed was a straightforward offside call. Dimitar Berbatov had released Ronaldo with a killer ball, leaving him one-on-one with Petr Cech, from which the Portugese wing wizard duly converted his chance. But the linesman flagged him for offside, which was proven wrong in the video replays. Ronaldo was on line with the last defender when Berbatov released the ball. Another poor call, men-in-black.

And I haven't even mentioned the legitimate penalty claim by Ronaldo yet. From a corner-kick, Ronaldo fell in the penalty box, and a scuffle between him and fellow Portugese international Ricardo Carvalho ensued. Carvalho was seen admonishing Ronaldo for presumably, diving, but replays showed that Ronaldo was practically manhandled by Carvalho, with the latter's arms all around Ronaldo and tugging his shirt, before Ronaldo was then tripped for good measure. In essence, Carvalho had committed 2 separate fouls there, but instead of awarding United a penalty, referee Howard Webb issued yellow cards to both Ronaldo and Carvalho. A rather puzzling decision, but one can only assume Carvalho's confronting of Ronaldo had influenced the referee's decision. Clever gamesmanship by Carvalho there, to commit a foul off the ball and trying to place the blame on Ronaldo and making it seem that Ronaldo dived. Ronaldo's surprised expression at Carvalho's aggression in confronting him says all that needs to be told.

Have to have a special mention of Ryan Giggs and Nemanja Vidic though. Giggsy, all of 35 years of age, put in a masterclass in his adopted, not natural, position of central midfield, even being selected ahead of United's regular technician, Paul Scholes. Chelsea's midfield generals Ballack and Lampard couldn't handle him... and neither could their lieutenant John Obi Mikel. Giggsy totally schooled them and gave them a footballing education on how to play in the middle of the park. Incredible stuff.

As for Nemanja Vidic... is there a better defender in the Premier League? Vidic was simply imperious in the absence of regular partner Rio Ferdinand. Not only did he snuff out Drogba and Co., he scored a goal right on the stroke of half-time. And as far as I'm concerned, he should be credited with an assist in Berbatov's goal too. Right before Ronaldo crossed the ball, Vidic was seen giving instructions to Berbatov, which the Bulgarian acknowledged. Ronaldo crossed, Berba ran away from his marker to meet the cross, Vidic spread his arms and blocked Berba's marker from tracking him, and Berba was home free to stab the ball into the back of the net. Brilliant, brilliant, set-piece routine. Straight from the training ground.

Now United are only 1 point behind Chelsea, and 5 behind Liverpool with 2 games in hand. If United win these 2 games in hand, we'll be topping the table come Saturday! =)

The Clan Goes Kara-Wookay!

The Clan's tekak da gatal, nak nyanyi; so we decided to go karaoke-ing.

Cash Studios had a promotion + decent song choices, but was under renovation. Out.

KBox has a pretty poor selection of Malay songs (Sejati was Techno-fied???) so that was out too.

PartyWorldKTV has a wide range of Malay songs, so PartyWorld it is then.

This was taken after a few rounds of singing 'kena cepit buah dulu kalau nak sampai pitch' songs as Adam puts it.

i.e. Isabella '98 by Saleem/Jamal Abdillah/Amy Search/Zamani, Sejati by Wings, Pada Syurga di Wajahmu by Lefthanded, and of course, the ultimate 'kena cepit buah dulu kalau nak sampai pitch' song, Fantasia Bulan Madu by Search. Pun tak sampai² jugak pitch Amy Search!

More karaoke-ing this Friday, Insya'Allah =)

Game 26 - January 4th 2009

Extract from TKH website:

Venue: Victoria School (Siglap)
Time: 2.30pm
Opponents: Victoria Kallang

Pitch: Artificial.
Game: ON!

1st team: Shahril Brown, Arip Toure, Aizad Terry, Wan Nesta, Wan Tanker,
Fadzil Pepe, Wan Pelique, Khairul Keane, Yusry Kewell, Zulhikam Ronaldo, Zulhairy Robson, Roy van Persie, Hafiz Rooney, Azril Fowler, Rennie Iskandar

A day anticipated by many TKHians as a kickstarter to the new year ( and hopefully more monthly games) has finally arrived. Heavy downpour threatherened to breakaway. It did, but passed before the game. Nice cool weather plus a wet surface meant an excellent field for all.

One by one my playmates on the field, gd pals off it reached. I had 18 players today and it was a wonderful dilemma to be in. Who to play first? Who to play where? I'm loving it.

I welcomed Rennie Iskandar to the team, as also several others who were wearing the new TKH Nike kit for the very first time. Warm- up followed and soon it was play ball!

TKH dominated the game entirely, but because we seldom play together, we lacked the fluidiy of the KV. Our final pieces of play were lacking as we pressed on the final few minutes. With due respect to the opponents, TKH should have won this game easily.

Well, in the end a nil-nil draw was deserving to both teams. Shahril had a good game in goal, Khairul palyed a composed game, and as we always say, we should have won the game. Enjoy the pics. Nil Sine Labore.

*Played as left-wing in the game. Been playing on the left alot lately, for both OVA and TKH. Yusry even contemplated playing me at left-back to come up against Adam, who's playing on OVA's right wing and whose pace is a threat. In the end, I played both halves on the left-wing with Roy slotting in the right.

My 1st Match as an Old Victorian!

I've recently been called to join the Old Victorians' Association, my alma mater's alumni, to play for them. So far, I've had only a kickabout session with them once, and this was the 1st time I was playing with them as an Old Victorian, under the team Kallang Victorians (we Victorians have shifted sites 3 times). I had no hesitation at all in forking out $40 to buy a set of jerseys, as it was the only time I've ever got to don a jersey representing my school badge, even though it was the OVA's badge, because I did not play for VS back in the schooling days. I felt incredibly proud of course. Match was against Team Esplanade, a team of burly, middle-aged tattoo-ed Mats with fierce hair and even fiercer faces. We won 2-1 anyway. Played the 1st half as a left-winger, and the 2nd as a left-back. A first for me!
Match-Day PhotoA team-mate commented that I look like Sonic the Hedgehog, what with the spiky hair, blue jersey and red boots. Konghasam! =\

This Sunday 040109, my football team, TKH, will be having a match against the OVA at Victoria School's artificial pitch. This will be interesting because the core of TKH are made up of Victorians from The Clan, and we also have played for/with the OVA at one point or another, including Al Capitan Yusry, Aizad, Khairul, Zulhairi and Yours Truly. Not forgetting that OVA also has Adam, a Clan member but not in TKH, in their ranks. The TKHians will of course be playing for TKH, and so we'll be squaring off against Adam and Friends. I'm all fired up for this!!!

1st Post of 2009

Happy 2009 Everybody!!!

I thought of making this the final post of 2008, but it was not to be.

Warning: This is gonna be a looong post.

I've FINALLY updated my blog. Due to popular demand, I've complied with your requests. Here are pictures from my family holiday to Malaysia, at various locations.

Swimming almost everyday, playing around with my nephews, even having the following conversation with a Malaysian Mat working at Sunway Lagoon:

Mat
(Eyeing my choker): Lawa rantai bang!
Me: Huh?
Mat: Lawa tu rantai pat leher!
Me (Thinking he was sindir-ing me): Biasa jugakkk. Da 7 tahun pakai.
Mat: Tak pernah nampak orang pakai pick guitar buat rantai. Abang main guitar uh ni?
Me (Wondering where this is all going): A'ah. Sikit² ader la main guitar.
Mat: Ohh. Nanti pergi Rockworld tak?
Me: Huh? Rockworld?
Mat: A'ah. Ada Wings, Search, Awie, Amy semua hebat² ada...
Me (Realizing that ni Mat fellow Mat Rock rupanya): Oooooh. Bila tu? Mana?
Mat: 20 haribulan (December) pat Stadium Negara.
Me (Dengan muka penuh toya): Ah Insya'Allah aku pergi.

Ah ye lah. Insya'Allah dengan Mat Rocker eh. And Stadium Negara eh! Setep aku ni warga Malaysia je...

And oh. I even made a bet with my Brother-In-Law that I will approach a Miss Tourism contestant (Miss Tourism International 2009 pageants were taking place at the hotel I was staying in) and ask her for her autograph. And I did! Turns out I got Miss Tourism Philippines. Heh. More updates later. For more pics, look my Friendster Profile.
