Mosi's & Marina

One fine day on Friday the 27th of January, The Clan decided to have a surprise farewell-gathering for Azhar, who's pursuing his studies in Australia, following in the footsteps of Khairul and Alvin Alverdian before him. So we had the idea to rent a room at the new extended Mosi's Cafe, where we brought along a karaoke player and Faisal brought along his selection of karaoke VCDs.

After that, after all the chickadees have gone, and it was just us boys left, we headed for a late night out at Marina Barrage till the wee hours of the morning~...

It's been a good week for me, football-wise. Last week I scored for TKH from the penalty spot as a goalkeeper, and this today I scored my 1st goal for OVA while playing for Kallang Victorians against ABN Bank! =) a through ball from the right-wing was over-hit for Faisal, playing as striker to get to... but running in from the left wing, I got to the ball and immediately found myself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. I shaped to shoot into the far corner with my right foot, but having been a goalkeeper, I had read his body language which tells me he was anticipating precisely that shot from me. So instead, I cut left, left him for dead and dribbled the ball into the net. Goal!

Here's Abg Zan's (our coach) assessment of the game:

yes, the weather was a little bit on the extreme yesterday but on the general, everyone had a good workout yesterday...
Kallang Victorians vs ABN Bank
HT 3 - 0
FT 5 - 3
It is with great pleasure to announce that Sean Cheng is the first person to score a hattrick in the
25th min, 67th min and 80th min, and as spoken, i've given Sean his Soccer Jersey with the OVA Logo, yesterday...
The other goals were scored by Yusri in the 31st min and
Zulhikam in the 38th min
All the goals, were good as they were from open play, but I would say that the best goal so far, ever since i managed the Kallang and OVA Juniors, was our fourth goal, as it all started when
Aizad, cut off the Opponent's long pass, and relayed it with a controlled header to Ken Wong, on the left at the halfway line.
Ken, turned and make a quick pass to Zulhikam, who was hogging down the Opponent's left touchline.
Zulhikam, cut inside about 5 yards and relayed a neat pass to Iskandar on the right side of the pitch.
Iskandar, aware of Shaun's run outside the right hand side of the Opponent's penalty box, pushed the ball to him.
Shaun, without breaking a stride, slipped the ball to Sean.
Sean, who was unmarked in the middle of the penalty box and converted the moves with a well taken goal...
It's not so much of how the final delivery BUT it's,
the teamwork,
the awareness,
the reflexes,
the making up of your decision,
before you get possession of the ball,
when you are in possession of the ball,
and after releasing possession of the ball...
basically, it's known as the footballing brains...
WELL DONE guys... ALL those that have come yesterday...

I must also say, that there are very vast improvements, in some of our very junior Players like Ting Wei, Khalid and even the likes of Aravind, but unfortunately, he have not been with us since his Exams last year...

Matching orange shoes! =)

Valentine's Day

My stand is official now:

Valentine's Day is HARAM

My Ustaz told us this in ugama class this morning, confirming my personal beliefs.

Valentine's Day is a day celebrated in recognition of a Christian missionary (or several), St. Valentine(s).

"...The holiday is named after two among the numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine... The feast day is still celebrated in Balzan (Malta) where relics of the saint are claimed to be found, and also throughout the world by Traditionalist Catholics who follow the older, pre-Vatican II calendar... The to Roman Emperor Claudius II, allegedly ordering that young men remain single. The Emperor supposedly did this to grow his army, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers. The priest Valentine, however, secretly performed marriage ceremonies for young men. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine arrested and thrown in jail. In an embellishment to The Golden Legend, on the evening before Valentine was to be executed, he wrote the first "valentine" himself, addressed to a young girl variously identified as his beloved,as the jailer's daughter whom he had befriended and healed, or both. It was a note that read "From your Valentine."..." - From Wikipedia, Valentine's Day

Alhamdulillah, I've never engaged in the celebrating of this day, nor do I ever wish to do so. By logical extension, by celebrating this holiday (the word came from the merger of 'holy day'), we might just as well celebrate Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, Christmas and other similar holidays which are contrary to, and incompatible with, the teachings of Islam.

May my fellow Muslims around the world who celebrate this day realize their folly, see through the hype and romantic notions of Valentine's Day and refrain from celebrating any future V-days. To show love is to show it every day, not just on Feb 14 every year. Wallahu'alam bissawab. Amin.

After-Action Review

Wow. My hands are quite literally scarred with so many angry scars, not just my fingers, even my wrists, that they look like the hands of a psycho-emotional menstrual girl whose habit is to inflict lacerations on herself just to get her mind off a break-up/family problems/low-self esteem/whatever. Thanks eh papercuts.

Who'd have thought that office work would be so hazardous? 0_0

On the other hand, I've been working heavy-duty overtime, to earn some moolah, and also to sort of finish my assignment. After all, one has to be professional doesn't one?

And one's last day ends today. No more office-work for me! =)

Thanks for the experience, Thome Ship Management.

TKH Game 28

TKH vs Wan Tanker's Team @Queensway Secondary School

It's been a while since I played for TKH. And this week it's supposed to be against my friend Shafie's team, but they couldn't confirm. So last minute we managed to arrange a match against Wan Tanker's friend's team, which left Wan Tanker in a dilemma whether to play for TKH or the other team.

And goodness sakes, we had no goalkeeper! So I volunteered my services, since I first started out playing football at 5 years old as a goalie, and represented my Primary School in that position. So for the 1st half, I was dressed in yellow oversized goalie clothes and a cap, and stood vigil against the Tides of Darkness approaching my goal. Cheh! Drama.

*Fweet!* PENALTY TO TKH!
Guess who ran up to take it?
Biasa jugakk, the goalkeeper in yellow oversized clothes ran the full field to face his counterpart.
I stepped up... sent the ball right down the middle and... GOAL!!!
I Zulhikam, temporary keeper of TKH, scored a goal from the penalty spot!!! Brilliant! =)

2nd Half

I took my more accustomed left-wing berth in the team, with my cousin Aizad taking over me as goalkeeper, and it paid almost-immediate dividends when a free-flowing counter-attacking move from defence to right midfield to the middle saw Hermie slide a ball to me nicely on the left. I took a touch, and curled a right-foot shot from the left over and beyond the goalkeeper... and... hit the bar. KAUZ.

Anyway to cut long story short, we ran out 4-2 winners. But the whole point of this post is to highlight that I scored as a goalkeeper, even if it's from the penalty spot. Heh! =)

Something for u Liverpool fans

Ok ok. Here's something for you Liverpool fans to have a laugh at instead. Specifically, Nas -_-'"

The Big Thing About Bias

I've noticed recently that this site and other areas of the media are increasingly being accused of having an anti-Liverpool bias. I've got a theory for you. Maybe, just maybe, Liverpool are at last being found out for what they actually are. Just because you incessantly keep insisting you are big club doesn't mean you actually are one.

It's like George Bush and Tony Blair warmongering in Iraq, repeatedly insisting that there were weapons of mass destruction there, when there were not, and after time it became obvious to everyone that there were not.

This is the same as Liverpool repeatedly insisting they are a big club . . . maybe now people are at last starting to recognise that they haven't been a big club for 20 years, and people are getting sick of their histrionics when anyone dare suggests otherwise. Only their own insistence on being a big club and the Champions League handouts they unjustly receive each year (Champions? Really?), has allowed them to maintain this charade in their own mind for so long. Maybe now people are at last daring to be more vocal in stating the fact that they have not respected Liverpool for years. And why should they?

But maybe it's easier for Liverpool supporters to cry foul at such sentiments and accuse a well rounded website, or anyone else who dares state the blatantly obvious truth about a club that has been in decline for 20 years, of anti-Liverpool bias.
Colin Brown

Quote of the week

"Liverpool winning didn't bother me. I would have preferred a draw. But the one thing I didn't want was a Chelsea win, because they are a bigger threat. Chelsea are a better all-round side than Liverpool. I honestly don't think Liverpool are a threat in the title race" -
United Legend Paddy Crerand

"There is no extra pressure on me. I can guarantee that I have not read a newspaper, listened to radio or watched TV since the Wigan game" - Rafa buries his head in the sand.

Heartwarming Tale Of The Day
'It appears as though no one is immune from the credit crunch - not even WAGs. As the recession continues to affect global economy, Alex Curran (*note - WIFE OF STEVEN GERRARD) has become conscious of spending too much money. The footballer's wife claims that despite having her hair done twice a week, she is frugal at heart - and even does her own nails' - The Daily Mail.

Non-Football Stories Of The Day
'RESIDENTS in a rural area of Darwin have renamed their street "Dildo Boulevard" after 30 sex toys were found lying in front of a house on Friday morning. Robert Johns and Laurelle Bates discovered the mysterious toys as they left for work in the morning.

"It's a real mystery. We have no idea where they came from," Ms Bates said.
"I know they aren't new. They look used."

Mr Johns said he counted the sex toys on Friday morning, and the number had decreased within 24 hours.

Jacob Ballas @ Botanical Gardens

So one fine Sunday in December I was minding my own business, quite happy to slack at home 'cos I had no plans whatsoever. Then aleh-aleh Beg Fan gave me a call, asking me if I'd like to join him and the kids for a trip to Botanical Gardens. You know, for some reason I've never went to Botanical Gardens much as a kid. I jumped at the chance.

Of course, what my brother really meant to say by asking me if I'd wanna come along was "Hikam ikut uh, boleh tolong Abang and Kak Su jaga² si Fikri and Hilmi". Haha I saw through that in an instant but hey, I'm happy to act as a chaperone for my 2 little munchkins anytime, so off I went.

We went to some Jacob Ballas Children's Garden located somewhere inside Botanical Gardens. I was almost like a kid myself in fantasyland, as I looked in wonder at the plants and the sheer creativity of the garden. Sometimes it's good to release a part of your adult life and just let go and see life through the eyes of a kid again...

Here we are now ladsPretty self-explanatoryFound a takraw ball in Botanical Gardens of all places!!!Just couldn't resist it could I? My Lucky Pink Ball

Big, blasted, blue-faced barbecued baboons, barnacles and bazookas! I went bowling!
K that in itself is no biggie I guess. I've gone to play bowls before.
But to do it with these peeps... *scratches head* Haha. I must be nuts.
Especially since... there was a great resistance to bowling by certain elements within the group... which strangely, disappeared over time. Wonder why eh?
Probably because we had funtastic fun, that's why!

Participants: Diana, Fizah, Muzz, Nabil, Zulhilmi, Zulhikam + Extra guy hiding behind wall.

I thought I could ace this game, but it's kinda hard to win when the person before you keeps getting 5 TRIES PER ROUND to hit spares *glares at fizah*. I thought maybe the computer is programmed to be a male innit, but then I saw with my own eyes that the game was rigged and a man was behind all that when he crawled from behind the wall to 'repair' our lane. Obviously has the hots for fizah innit.

It didn't help matters that the above-mentioned was using a pink 8 ball and kept hitting spares (with extra help of course). Somehow she managed to convince me that it's lucky, but it's actually unlucky innit! I kept hitting gutter balls with it. Had to harapkan my no. 7 pink ball, but the hot chick in the red cheongsam in the next lane kept stealing it from me so I had to make do with other balls innit. Geez. And oh oh. MuZz dropped the ball. Badaboom! Macam nangka busuk daaa. Mpppfffttttt! =)

Ended the nite at Ben N' Jerry's with discounted ice-cream (wahey!) and a lecture from Diana's mother for bringing her home late. Geez! Alritey then, I won't say much more, since them people who are in the group are the same ones who read my blog anyway. Haha. Let the pics tell all...
