Another one of those days, like many of those days.... Things just did not work out right.... The Opponents though, had Malek Awab, on their Side and though he's 48, he still plays like a 24 year old! Credit to him, for making and calling all the play....

Our opponents were a team from The Cage, yes, the very same The Cage where people pay to play futsal at Jalan Benaan Kapal.

And yes, like Abang Zan mentioned above, they had Malek Awab in their ranks. Malek Awab, he of the lungs and stamina like that of a horse and former member of Singapore's Dream Team. For those of you who don't know Malek Awab, you deserve a slap on the noggin and shame on you. Here's Malek Awab in his pomp...

Yes, as you can imagine, playing against a 48 year old Malek is almost like playing with any other 24 year old. And he had the cheek, when asking his right-back to mark me, to say,

"Umar, jaga deni betul-betul. Ni Zul Zul sumer kaki lari ni"

At which point I replied

"Ehhh bang. Dulu siape yg lari macam kuda, tak penat-penat?"

Malek replied

"Ahhh tu duluuu. Sekarang manada kuda lagiii..."

Haha. Funny guy. He was hitting cross-field balls with his right foot, left foot, it doesn't matter to him, both he does really well. And turning up in all areas of the pitch. Sheesh. On top of that, The Cage had in their ranks one Zulkifli, my junior in Junyuan Primary and also in VS. And who also happens to be my former neighbour. Whom I used to play football with at the void deck of our flat. And now he's a former National U-18 player. Dang.

Anyway, we lost 8-3. I missed a penalty, my 2nd penalty miss in as many games. And now I've been banned from taking penalties =( But I made amends by scoring in the 2nd half. Goal as below. Zulhairi played a ball to Yusri upfront during a counter-attack. I ran up from centre-midfield to support Yusri. Yusri laid the ball to me, expecting a return pass. But seeing the centre-back cover my angle to pass to Yusri, I decided to take him on. Sold and fooled him with a stepover with my right foot, pushed the ball forward with my left, swivelled back and lifted the ball over the goalkeeper into the far corner of the net with my right foot. For those not football-inclined, the following video shows the art of the stepover.

I also took a bootful of studs to my GROIN. Ouch. Leaving me incapacitated for quite a few minutes. Overall, a mixed game for me... like Abang Zan said, if I'd converted my penalty, I would have had a good game...
